In 1933, FDR made it ILLEGAL for Americans to own gold. The penalty? 10 years in prison.

The government literally banned money they couldn’t print.

Now they’re salty about Bitcoin because (surprise) they can’t print it either. History doesn’t repeat, but it sure rhymes. ⚡

Did they ever jail anyone for it?

Not really. The enforcement seemed to focus on larger holders and businesses which complied. For me, the lesson is that threats at the barrel of a gun will force enough voluntary self-regulation for centralized powers to maintain their desired control.

Makes you wonder about those Bitcoin Treasury Company honeypots as we go through this fourth turning 👀

💯

Very few I believe. Only 20-27% of privately held gold was actually turned in meaning most people just quietly kept their gold and the government didn’t go door to door hunting for it.

I wonder how many could comply with bitcoin today. Non kyc sats ftw.

There’s always one….lol
