The ui is dogshit and needs tons of work, are you kidding? Have you ever used bitcoin core? There are tons of confusing things, bugs and foot guns with the api as well. I have worked on a few of them.
Why do you assume devs have lots of bitcoin?
Core has been in the process of redesign for a while. I’m not sure what the status of that is though.
