Is there a good alternative way to watch YouTube without ads? My student discount for YT Premium is about to end and while I love having no ads, I'd prefer to spend that money on directly supporting creators through Patreon instead of paying YT directly.

Some of the self hosted options look promising, but it does appear that YT is blocking them.

Check in case the YouTube channel is also on #Odysee, #Rumble or #Peertube.

If it's not, you can use #Grayjay or #BraveBrowser.

Desktop (windows&linux) + android :

Freetube

Grayjay

android only :

newpipe

tubular (fork of newpipe)

pipepipe (based of newpipe)

Browser :

Invidious ( the least reliable, probably the least 'private', best instance yet is inv.nadeko.net )

piped (never worked for me)

try them and see what suits you ( I use almost all of them 😆 )

some of these projects support more platforms other than YT.

Highly recommend NOT using the YT site with an AdBlocker (the website is still very invasive, and I believe some people got their accounts banned because of it )

if you need/want to use your account (log in), Grayjay and pipepipe have that "feature".
