Concerning question, what happens IRL if you need the #walletofsatoshi to pay for dinner and it is down? Is it dish washing time?

In RL you have a backup of your priv key, load that into a different wallet and carry on.

Not really workarounds. It's how Bitcoin works, by design. Wallets are just signing devices to reallocated inputs and outputs across the chain. You can have the same private key as in many devices as you like and thus you'll always have access to your address(es).
