Question-is it bad for the chickens if there is nothing growing in there run area for them to eat? The area I keep them used to have grass and plants, now it’s a desert. They do have feed and water available.

As long as they have food and water, as you are providing, they should be fine, maybe bored.

Have you access to food scraps, tree foliage, grass clippings etc, that you could throw in? Maybe some quick growing edible plants in pots or around the outside they can peck at, but not completely destroy.

I do give them scraps, mulch and grass clipping, thanks.

That’s pretty normal, as they’ll kill about anything in their run. Lots of mulch/wood chips is a good way to absorb all the nitrogen from their poop and keep the dust down.

Then I’m doing it right, thank you.
