On behalf of the BTC Coalition, we are recommending MEPs to vote AGAINST the #EU #AMLR proposal and urge you to join our call for three main reasons:

1. EU WILL DEVASTATE CROWDFUNDING FOR ACTIVISTS AND HUMANITARIAN NGOs

NGOs barely receive funds to support human rights or humanitarian aid.

#Crowdfunding, including the use of #Bitcoin in self-hosted wallets, is the last resort.

What is the EU doing?

In the post-Trilogue AMLR draft, all possible crowdfunding platforms, including based on crypto-assets and serving humanitarian purposes, designated as intermediaries, are considered as high-risk ever-evolving Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (ML/TF) channel.

In practice this means fewer and fewer donations, because of:

🔻increased administrative & operational costs,

🔻reduction of the donor base due to invasive due diligence processes,

🔻reduced financial inclusion of smaller entities and projects that traditionally rely on crowdfunding.

The AMLR does not take into account the broader negative impacts on society, resulting in the obstruction or even halting of social, entrepreneurial and humanitarian initiatives. 1/5

It's tiresome fighting the state and pretending that they actually care about the negative impacts to broader society, because clearly their singular motive is totalitarian control. When will we stop tiptoeing that fact.

Show me one thing where power was given, but not taken. Not everyone pretends. Last year European Parliament voted in defense of self-hosted wallets, recognizing crypto assets as a payment and crowdfunding instruments. This year trilogue procedure with involvement of the EU Commission and EU Council ➕ silence of the EU citizens in defense of privacy instruments made EP’s position weak. So we have this very dangerous proposal of AML regulation.

If you don’t defend your rights, if you are tired to defend your rights, you will lose them. Satoshi #Nakomoto understood very well: his freedom tool is about defending rights, defending decentralized power. But as everything, it is also need to have people, ready to develop, speak up in defense themselves and their freedom tools.

The EU should be abolished. We must return to free countries in a pure economic union, as it once existed.
