#Oppenheimer

1. 3 hrs long. wow I hope you don’t have ADD, or a small bladder

2. Seemed historically accurate

3. I couldn’t detect any direct flaws in the Representation of the science.

4. In Hollywood fashion, way to much sex and obsession on the affairs/love life.

I remember from Richard Roads book “making of the atomic bomb”, they spent enormous resources ensuring the atmosphere would not catch on fire. That was a serious question, and historically accurate.

They did call it gadget, they did not need the trinity test for the bomb used at Hiroshima, that made me wonder if Leslie Groves understood the purpose of trinity test. The first bomb was uranium and triggered buy gun assembly. The US dropped it untested and were certain it would detonate, based on calculations and theory.

The plutonium bomb “Fat Man” (the implosion device) was the one they were unsure of, and needed the demonstration at Trinity To prove it would work.

The interaction between Oppenheimer and Teller related to fusion bomb research was most likely exactly how that happed. Scientists like Oppenheimer think so quickly that even the most brilliant can’t keep up. That behavior can make lesser men jealous.

It is hard to stuff detail into a three hour movie. To get it factually accurate it would have been a 24 hr mini-series. You have to pick the big details. #Oppenheimer was not badly done. Stripping Oppenheimer of his clearance no different than dropping the bomb Japan served as a lesson and message for “others” and not as a punishment for the “victim(s)”. That, my friend, is the sad truth about how things work. At LANL, each person iS reinforced with the message that even the first director of the lab lost his Q clearance. That keeps physicists extra cautious and very respectful of the rules. Stripping Oppenheimer of his clearance served its purpose well.

I've been looking forward to seeing this, I'm going to get there this weekend, I hope. Cillian Murphy was great in Peaky Blinders and it looks, from the trailers at least, like he's just pulled off another incredible performance.
