My girlfriend and I are sitting on the balcony watching the Perseids shooting stars. As romantic as it is, the situation gives me goosebumps for another reason: Less than a hundred years ago, my grandfather, as a young boy, watched the sky and nothing in the sky moved or flashed it's lights. No aeroplanes, no satellites, nothing! Human progress and ingenuity is amazing! We can do things that nobody could have dreamed of 100 years ago. I don't understand why people aren't insanely optimistic about their own potential. I fucking love humanity and the ability we have to come up with new things to solve problems.
