Hi. I'm writing a fantasy fiction novel in a new setting, with some classic callbacks. The central point of the main story is the conflict between a race of bright elves and dark elves.

In ages past, the dark elves were darklings, who bore the curse of an evil spirit that, while consigning them to damnation, gave them worldly riches by way of robbing them of morality outside their ethnic group. As the darklings came to know the bright elves, they also came to covet their power, beauty and riches. By rape, murder, trickery, they would steal bright elf maidens to mate with, stealing the bright elves' genes to beget a new mixed breed - henceforth called the dark elves.

In such a new form, they had a much easier time infiltrating the bright elves' societies. They promised riches to the lords of the bright elves, who, in their greed, gave to the dark elves the highest positions in charge of finance, from whence the dark elves would plunder the simpler bright elven folk with the bright elven lords turning a blind eye to the process. As the situation grew more and more dire, rebellions and uprisings against the dark elven financiers would arise, and the bright elven lords, fearing for their power and status, would be forced to expel the dark elves, who became a transient, migratory lot, hopping from country to country, misleading and usurping the elite, while torturing the lower classes. Each time they were ran out they would crop up elsewhere.

Many centuries later, with careful plotting and positioning, the dark elves managed to provoke a war between the different bright elven countries. It proved disastrous for the bright elves, and, thanks to an unproven allegation of a mass dark elf slaughter at the hands of the bright elves, propagandised in mass media, the dark elves were ascendant.

Soon, all bright elves were taught to hate themselves for the crimes of their past, which, many a times, were in actuality dark elven crimes or committed at the dark elves' behest, or were even entirely fabricated stories. The dark elves began to bring in highly rapacious and violent apefolk from an exotic continent to the bright elves' lands to terrorize the populace and breed them out of existence. Any anti-apefolk sentiment was decried as anti-apefolkism by the mass dark elf controlled media, which was the highest crime in the lands controlled by them.

In such a setting, what would have been the most logical and what would have been the most moral responses by the bright elves occupied by dark elf usurpers?
