The best way I’ve thought of is to underdevelop the For You algorithm. This would reduce the constant dopamine flow of only seeing shorts you like. But it would also make the app less fun to use than tiktok or YouTube.

Letting the algorithm serve you unrelated shorts is bad for your attention span. The best way to use short form content is to dive down rabbit holes on a specific topic. You could design an app to encourage deep dives on specific topics, just where you view many short videos from different creators and get a more informed opinion of what the people think, as opposed to it being factually correct.

You have made me think deeply about this. I’ll keep these ideas in mind.

I could use a strong algorithm for search and context of what you are looking at and how it’s related to your interests. Like how on TikTok, the recommended search is algorithmically generated for you. I was a very heavy user of TikTok. I just couldnt take making parasocial bonds anymore.

But the issues of a TikTok style app remain. Building an app with live streaming to mimic TikTok will cause parasocial relationships to form, and many lonely men and young women will take advantage of each other. I have a lot of thinking to do with regard to the ethics of developing my TikTok clone on Nostr. I’m not sure many others here could replicate it, because not many here actually use tiktok. But I’m not sure I should do it at all. I’m of a split mind on censorship.

Ultimately, it’s clear to me at least, that people learn in different ways

Audio. Visual. Reading etc

Whilst sometimes you’re doing something that means you can only listen, rather than watch or read

So the more varied access to information and content we give people, the better

I think short form video on Nostr is a great one to go after

It’s definitely better for it to be on Nostr than for it to be TikTok or Instagram
