Looking to start an email list for friends, family, supporters, etc.

Do many people here use #ghost ? I know nostr:npub1guh5grefa7vkay4ps6udxg8lrqxg2kgr3qh9n4gduxut64nfxq0q9y6hjy does, but I haven't heard of many others.

Do you pay for their SaaS? Being somewhat technical the temptation to self host is real.

I was starting to evaluate Listmonk, as a cheap open-source option, with about $2/mo hosting on PikaPods, but getting email to the destination reliably I have recently learned is a problem which is not free to solve.

What do you think? Go with the Ghost???

I Haven't hosted it myself, but it seems pretty similar to WordPress based on my use.

My site is already based on Wordpress so maybe I should just figure out how to do mailing lists from there.

But I do like the separation

Depending on how you're doing email, there's already a lot of mailing list integrations for WordPress.

I’m using sendgrid with Wordpress for some limited things already. But I hate that it’s another 3rd party.

ProtonMail has a similar SMTP service for business “in early beta” which I tried to sign up for and they just told me no, which kinda sucks.

Hate that reliable email costs like $20-$30 a month. Wayyy more than my web hosting.

Yeah, email is a real pain in the ass right now, especially With recent Google and Yahoo updates, I host my own mail server, so I understand not wanting to use another third party. I recently had to send out a warning email to my clients before the update saying that they might want to whitelist my domains so they don't get immediately shunted into spam.

try nblog its a nostr native ghost. I have an article that may help. You can run free on vercel. You write in long form with habla.news has human readable links that can be shared

Ok I will check it out, but the "email" part is a key requirement here. While I wish everyone was on Nostr, it just isn't the case.

I wish I could just post here and trade my wares for sats, and live a grand life building and providing value. But us bitcoiners dont like spending our coins.
