This is 💯 noob advice directed at other noobs:

I'm coming up on the 6 month mark of my presence on #Nostr. I've learned a lot and I still have much more to learn.

Here are 10 tips to help you make the most out of a new #Nostr profile.

1. Introduce yourself and use this hashtag: #introductions

2. #asknostr when things don't work or make sense (if you're not a developer there's a bunch of stuff that isn't immediately intuitive).

3. If you aren't really into #bitcoin, just ignore it. It won't go away, but you can reduce how much of it you encounter by only following content you are interested in. Nostr has plenty to offer in the way of art/music/culture.... You'll probably want to set up a Wallet for #zaps still though. Note*You can stretch a dollar's worth of bitcoin a long way with small tips (21 sats is a popular amount to tip and that's like a fraction of a cent of something).

4. Yes. You should set up a bitcoin wallet for #zaps. I use nostr:nprofile1qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fspzemhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucm0d9hx7uewd9hj75a0pev. There are many others to choose from. If the concept confuses you, #asknostr.

5. Terminolgy: your post is a note, your app is a client (i.e. I use the #amethyst client). #Zaps are tips using small increments of bitcoin called sats. The good people of nostr are known as #nostriches. Your npub is a public address. It's OK to share. Nsec is private. Protect your Nsec. If you lose it, you may lose access to your profile. If someone else gets it, they can take over your account.

6. Spend some time trying to understand what a relay is and how/why to choose between them. There are some pretty good resources out there somewhere. #asknostr for help.

7. Don't follow people just because they follow you. And don't follow people for sats. That's cringe. There aren't a lot of scammers and bots yet, but the phenomena is increasing. Be careful out there!

8. There are no algos to guide you toward your interests. You have to seek them out on your own. Curate your follows with care. You can make with a really great community of frens this way.

9. Interact with others. Say stuff. Sometime's, it's more important to comment on other people's notes than to make your own.

10. Don't give up! It may seem lonely out there at first. IMHO, you should probably have at least a weekly presence here. It may take a few months to start seeing the benefits of this amazing freedom-tech, but it's worth it. For your efforts, you will be rewarded with the friendship of real human beings. You will have real conversations and you will develop real community.

*Bonus* try saying #GM (good morning) when you wake up. And say GM back to others who use it too. It's a thing.

Love nostr:npub1h2qfjpnxau9k7ja9qkf50043xfpfy8j5v60xsqryef64y44puwnq28w8ch and you’ve made a great impression for those beginning on a new path.

Only point I disagree with is the zaps. More people should use nostr without zaps

Maybe. I guess it feels like so much work has gone into this functionality that I want to support it.

Too much work imo. Would be simpler & work better to just have wallet addresses

Good of you to support efforts though

I mean, there's, like, a button for #zaps, right? Ignoring that button just seems wrong.

Not everyone is such a baller like you 💚

I like tip 8, 9 & 10. Build your community. Nice job!

I like you!

Obvs great tips for newbies, but one thing I will say about #gm is I don't use social media when I first wake up. That's not healthy. I'll usually check in once I've gotten ready for the day and/or once I first sit down at my desk.

Great idea!

Just started my journey on nostr yesterday! thanks for the tips! 😃

Well said 💯
