I live in a world of hope and abundance - the perfect environment for raising children. I think your ancestors would be very heartbroken you felt this way after they survived and thrived through slavery, disease, death, poverty, wars, famines and many worse atrocities for you to just stop because of your dark perspective of the world. Throw yourself into Bitcoin, it’ll show you more light you could ever imagine.

I wish you and your kids the best. I really do. They say having kids is a transformative experience after all.

But you are correct that my perspective is dark when it comes to the future. As a species we are very prone to over-estimating our happiness (evolution would certainly select for optimism) and reproduction is probably our most basic instinct. These two factors combined lead me to mistrust any “rational” reasons for having children (other than the selfish ones). I’ve taken care of too many sick/injured/dying babies/children born of parents with the best of intentions to believe in fairy tales anymore.

I’d plead with you to please protect your kids but sadly that’s sometimes just not possible. Humanity as a whole is the best example of survivorship bias there is.

Best of luck though, and sorry to be a downer. The good news is that my genes that made me this way won’t get passed down just like the many throughout history who have shared the same view. :)

My friend, I have faith your opinion will change. A few years ago I would never have dreamed of having children. Bitcoin gave me the opportunity to build a better life for myself and ultimately my children. I would always choose life no matter what comes after and so I will be sure to in-still a sense of wonder and gratitude in my children for their one-in-infinity chance on earth. All living things are selfish, we are the only species that can understand that, another one-in-infinity chance. Altruism is dangerous. Ayn Rand has an interesting persepective. Life is and can be amazing.
