I’ve been reflecting on how Bitcoin & the community around it has changed me over the years. In many ways, I’ve come to see being a Bitcoiner as a new religion. Bitcoin has its own core tenets & guiding virtues, both within the protocol itself & in the way its principles can shape how one lives.

I started thinking about the parallels between Bitcoin’s design & philosophy, & the virtues of living as a Bitcoiner. Out of that reflection came this set of allegories… a way of connecting Bitcoin’s principles to a virtuous way of life.

1. Self-Custody → Guard what is yours with wisdom & responsibility.

2. Decentralization → Honor every voice & stand against unjust control.

3. Proof-of-Work → Let your actions and effort be the proof of your character.

4. 21 Million → Live with discipline, cherishing the sanctity of limits.

5. HODL → Remain steadfast through fear, doubt, & uncertainty.

6. Open Source → Share knowledge freely so that all may flourish.

7. Censorship Resistance → Defend the truth, even in the face of opposition.

8. Sovereignty → Recognize all as equal in dignity & autonomy.

9. Sound Money → Choose lasting value over fleeting temptation.

10. Trustless Consensus → Build upon openness, not the whims of men.
