Stupid simple if you get the Rpi from adafruit with the pins already attached. Verifying The software download can be a bit more of a challenge if you're not tech savvy, but the instructions are good. so, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

When all is said and done, it feels great to know that your BTC is secure and completely under your control.

Just do it.

Yes, checking software signature has always been a challenge for me.

That good feeling also has psychological reasons, because basically, people value things they make themselves more than things they buy ready-made.

Very true. Case in point, last year I built a farmhouse dining room table for my family all by myself. Looks great and I wouldn't ever trade it for an even nicer store-bought version.
