Critics of the IMF allege that the Fund's lending policies in Argentina and elsewhere in Latin America have been responsible for a deterioration in the living and working conditions for a significant portion of the population.

They maintain that the IMF's activities in those countries are inconsistent with respect for the economic and social human rights of the poorest sectors of the society.1
