I think back often to first time a friend told me to buy. How close I came to doing it, with decent size too... Take solace in knowing I would have sold off well before now
I first heard about it from a friend in 2012. I didn’t do anything until 2016.
Little later here, price was around 800 iirc. I do remember checking a couple years later and smugly noting it was down 40-50%.
2016 is a great year though, that's gotta be smallish percentile. Missed out on some crazy dopamine in 2017 by forgetting about it lol
Similar - colleague was mining it in the office in 2010. Told me about it. Ignored him. Revisited it in 2016.
Remembering I bought a few hundred USD of bitcoin in 2012 and drunkenly nuked the wallet I sent it to is one of the worst things that's ever happened to me!
(I spent a lot of time & energy around 2017 doing PK bitwise forensics on my devices & disks to be sure it's gone...it's definitely gone, but that exercise may have turned up some unexpected "spare change" so I wouldn't call it a total loss 😏)
There’s a rubbish tip in Wales with some Bitcoin in it, the guy who’s computer it was is seeking funding to buy the land to search for it 😂

I know someone who had a laptop stolen 10 years ago that had a wallet with substantial amount of (apparently still unspent) bitcoin on it. He is convinced the paper backup with the private key still exists, but hasn’t been able to find it yet.

My father called me hysterical once because he found a QR code in their safe & didn't recognize it, they thought they'd found the elusive stash! I knew better, but it still made my heart skip a beat!😅
I had a very similar experience. Bought in 2015, and still had some in 2020
Realised it wasn’t just the best roi id ever achieved, but also the counter-party risk was low, there was no opex, it was a true light bulb moment
Grateful that I was open-minded enough in 2015 to be taking those kind of risks
