Let me tell you the story of Drew, an employee on my crew who is one of my best workers. He is the type of guy who stays late, will work as long as he is needed, and is often asking for extra shifts. He's the type of employee that will drop what he is doing as soon as you tell him to do something else. Drew had an ID when I met him. He is an American citizen. He has gone thru 2 different state IDs since I met him and currently does not have one. I know because we ask for ID as collateral for work equipment like radios and keys.

Drew is homeless. He works overtime hours whenever the company lets him but he remains homeless because almost all of his money goes to paying the bills for his mother, who is in the hospital.

The reason he has such a hard time maintaining an ID is he often gets robbed or has his clothes stolen out of the box truck that he sleeps in in the backyard of a friends house. He even stopped carrying a wallet because its too easy to steal.

Are you telling me that Drew, an American citizen working his ass off just to care for his mother, should not have the ability to vote because his situation makes it difficult for him to maintain an ID?
