I've heard this from a lot of homesteaders - grass becomes nutrition for everyone. It's the ultimate in solar energy.

We have a heifer (and a young bull) and are hoping for a pregnancy soon and then milk eventually. Right now we're getting milk from a neighbor, and whatever we don't use is put to good use with the chickens and the dogs!
