People are always trying to influence people, and sometimes without words. Framing, color, pricing, context - there are many ways to influence without saying much.

Sometimes that influence is passive - like a community of similar opinions.

I think it helps to be aware of these things to make informed decisions.

Sounds like manipulation.

Busted. We have social signals here too. The more likes my note gets the more onlookers think others agree with my statement.

It’s all a master plan.

10-4.

I'm one of your onlookers.

When designing behavioural interventions you should address the factors to adoption.

Context is variable but humans psychology is consistent.

In my work these two often show up:

1. Normative pressure - Values, norms, and expectations shared among a social network slow adoption in order to fit into a broader social structure

2. Perceived switching cost - The gains of the designed change are not perceived subjectively higher than the losses of giving up old behavior

💯 It’s not all bad though. I create videos about hiking up a mountain and making a photograph.

It seems to occasionally get other people out their front door and up the hill.

I dont tell anyone what to do, I just show them the incentive.

Yeah I like it when it’s used for good.

Silent influence is like a quiet undercurrent. it can carry you forward or pull you under if you’re not paying attention. Makes me wonder What unspoken forces have shaped my biggest decisions? Time to audit my surroundings.
