That makes sense, thanks for clarifying. So these micro transactions are just a “feature” that I can potentially ignore, while using Nostr as a social++ ?

💯
which is kinda how all of it works to get technical… this is a list of implementation possibilities… the first one makes a client or relay a nostr client or relay. the rest are all optional. Fundamentally this list is comparatively simple to other protocols I’ve looked at which is why I’ve chosen nostr.
I do like the person to person, value to value stuff, I like being able to pay open source devs for their work directly, there are paid relays that help filter some spam, but nostr is totally useable with out this. It takes some time to cut through the excited maxis with plebchains & zapathons to see its actual utility.
Wow, thanks! I’ve stumbled upon that page and I saved it for later. This is all very exciting, including the payments stuff, but I’m still 80% ignorant about bitcoin, mostly because of the volatility. If it had a somewhat stable value with current money, I would use it without thinking.
the way I think about it is lightning can help facilitate the sale of a banana that costs less than a penny in a 3rd world country, and we can have fun with it for micropayments on social media, and that’s a separate matter if it’s stable or a good or bad investment.
The strike app thanks to nostr:npub1strjkeqqz3x6uuqzjvefa5dnql0ccl9wpttvmezvvv622uxarl0q99fpjm can receive zaps and immediately convert them into usd so even if it’s only a tiny amount you aren’t holding.
