Where are you? In drive on the right side of the road countries, a left turn is the time the driver is most likely to die in a car accident. Having the right of way is no consolation to you at your own funeral. I always wait for visible intent to stop from cross traffic at stop signs and green lights.
I completely agree with you. Always assume the person behind the wheel of another vehicle is either an idiot, impaired, or having a medical emergency. Driving is incredibly dangerous.
That said, I absolutely subscribe to the notion that it is better to be predictable than considerate. So if a left turn light is green, I’m cautious but don’t dilly dally.
Nothing is worse though than someone slowing down to let a pedestrian cross at an intersection without a stop sign. If I’m behind you in a car, you’re an asshole. If I’m the pedestrian, you’re also an asshole because you are expecting me to trust that you see me and are slowing down to let me cross. I’m not walking out in front of a slowly moving vehicle regardless of how many hand signals you give.
I get that & defensive driving is never a bad thing but to stop & wait in a left turn lane at an intersection with a green arrow lit up is a bit too much. Make the turn & stop impeding the flow of traffic.
Its like someone yielding in a round about for me. I appreciate the courtesy but just keep rolling
