It’s not worth the trouble. The most enlightened of normies will never get it until it’s obvious to everyone
Disappointing but... true.
Normies have been inundated with so many "conspiracy theories" and are so sensitive to peer pressure that they write these explanations off without a further thought.
What I believe will work for them, however, is a demonstration in a way that they can resonate with showing how Nostr and Bitcoin can solve their problems. The more user-friendly, the better.
Nowadays, you can bring them to tears simply by having a civil disagreement with them.
I think you might be right about that; and good idea! After all, it's impossible to deny society's addiction to social media and money. Why not assist in turning those addictions into hobbys?!
I think it is worth the trouble. There are tons of people who know something is wrong, especially after the Covid lockdowns and cost of living increases. Getting them to adopt Bitcoin is probably not going to happen, but you can help them with the next step in their journey. I think a big mistake is trying to promote these ideals only on the internet. Focus on those close to you IRL.
Some are more ready to hear real truth than others. I think the issue is they don't understand how bitcoin works as a solution for them.
I see bitcoiners, all the time, saying:
Step 1: Buy bitcoin
Step 2: Hodl
Step 3: Be free
And, I ask: What happens between step 2 and 3?
I get crickets.
How does internet money, that is hard for them to buy (non-KYC almost impossible), that they can't spend on anything that matters to them, fix anything for them?
If Bitcoin goes to $1M, but spiralling inflation makes a loaf of bread cost $1M, how does that fix anything for them?
I'm somewhat tech-savvy, but, and I'm still figuring it out. Even if I just stopped at Hodl, getting there without being tracked is a nightmare.
Lightning and Nostr are great options to reduce the barrier to entry and show normies what can be accomplished. But, like, how the hell do you run an LN node without getting rugged by forced channel closures and ensure your privacy isn't leaked? Seems like you have to be a frickin magician.
That's the problem. You have to research, figure stuff out, tinker, fail, and retry. People are doing amazing things to make Bitcoin tools more accessible. It's just still not good enough for normies. I don't think it's even good enough for me, yet. Or, I guess I'm not good enough for it.
Be patient. Keep pushing the tech to a state ready for normie adoption. Evangelize. We'll get there.
