Does your thumb have to touch your ring finger in the second part?

Not necessarily! So long as your 2nd hand movement looks like you're scratching something w/ your first two fingers bent, it will make sense!
Everyone's hands/fingers vary in size/shape, so there will always be slight variation in signs!
