Decentralized GIF buttons are the hardest thing to develop. Claude Opus 4.5 can't even figure it out.

What is gif button? The ability to add a GIF from something like GIPHY API?

Yes! But the issue is that GIPHY and Tenor APIs track users. gifbiddy.lol exists though so some day we might have a solution.

The main issue is IP tracking yes?

From what I understand, yes, their API will allow users to be tracked. It's been probably a year since we had this discussion and I don't remember all of the details.

We can probably figure out a way to make it work

Wtf is a decentralized gif button?

A button that allows users to search for and post gifs, but doesn't track users and isn't centralized to one service.

Oh. Instead of “decentralized” why not just a “local” approach. A button that shows you gifs stored on your phone that you can upload and post?

that might be cool.

Love that idea Fren 🌞

Was only yesterday I was about to ask this question of the community after noticing my reply to a note ended up as my own post after trying to attach a gif.

So much has been developed so far so Im guessing this is a lot harder than it would seem.

What if gifs were just events with keywords? And you could search this event type by keyword and just reference the existing event in your note instead of uploading new data?

In other words, the "gif button" is a button you press and either search for "gif events" by keyword, or upload a new one.

Then this event is added to your note.

I will now patiently wait for replies telling me why this is a stupid idea. 😂
