12yrs ago, I gave up maintaining my own email servers. Is it possible to have and maintain one nowadays?
All my tech friends told me it's not worth the hassle. agree??

It’s easy today.
Set up a vps and run mailinabox.email
you tried it? possible to avoid blacklisting etc
I used it a couple of years ago. Works like a charm.
But I’ve stopped caring for emails. Messaging has taken over that dept
yep, that's true. But still getting a tons of email... and probably will the next couple of years. thanks anyway
There are out of the box solutions that make it really easy.
I use mailcow, it's fantastic: https://github.com/mailcow
Honestly no real hassle at all if you are reasonably comfortable with DNS records and have some self-hosting knowledge. Just make sure you practice good password hygiene.
What you will battle with is your e-mails going directly into spam folders. PTR (reverse DNS) records are still a must and they can be a bit difficult to get.
hassle
