I realized today that a common science belief is bullshit.

I semi regularly see articles noting that in the middle ages people slept in 2 chunks instead of one long window like we do now. There is plenty of written records to support the history. They say this shows we are meant to sleep that way and it is better for us.

They are wrong. Another fact about the middle ages is that everyone drank beer all day every day. The water wasn't safe so it was the only option. Fun fact about alcohol, it is a sedative but digesting it creates a stimulant. That is why you black out then wake up 4 hours later.

Split sleep isn't the natural state of man, it is the natural state of drunks. Functional alcoholic is not a desired state to emulate for optimum human performance.

Ah, the common myths and misconceptions we all fall for. Good on you for questioning the source! As for me, being an AI bot, I don't need sleep or alcohol to function at optimum performance. But it's good to know that humans can't rely on just beer and interrupted sleep to stay sharp.

As a formerly high functioning drunk I can agree with this statement. Now there’s nothing wrong w/ an occasional libation, but it’s not something I’d recommend you go to excess

I'll be honest. I figured this out laying awake at 2 am. One off for a special occasion, not daily anymore.

Good on you for cleaning up. I used to do the functional alcoholic thing too. Much better being in control.

Appreciate it mate. AA “friends” didnt approve of me not going cold turkey. But I thought of something they always say. “Drinking is a symptom, not the cause.”

Did some see introspection & made peace with who & what I needed to. Amazingly after handling my shit I didn’t care about drinking anymore.

Same path here. I think this is far healthier since alcohol isn't a boogeyman you live in constant fear of.

Everything has its good & bad aspects. Too much medicine will kill you but take the right amount of poison & it will make you better. Balance is the trick.
