On Dec 24th - last year - I did release NOA, my prototype / attempt to make onboarding to Nostr easy for people that are, you know, normal.

NOA - Nostr Onboarding App, is a multi-platform, desktop and mobile app that lets you create or import Nostr keys, add name/description as Profile, sign-in into other Nostr services by signing requests and finally suggests a few essential apps to install (along with non-google stores for Android).

Today a new release has been pushed: v0.6.0.

It's available on Zapstore and the APK and Linux builds are also available for download here: https://packages.frankie.tools/noa/release/

The source code is here: https://github.com/ildella/noa/packages

Feedback is MOST welcome.

If anyone can help in building the app for Windows, OSX or iOS, please get in touch.

Nice work. Should make it easy to onboard new users to Nostr.

Question: You point to Amber, but I can't see how NOA worka with Amber (yet). Would make sense to have people create their nsec in Amber from day one, wouldn't it ?

Yes, it would. That's how I started building it. As a tutorial.

But, there are many buts.

1. It breaks the UX flow.

2. Another app to install from a store people don't have

3. No way to automatically trigger creation of keys. I should use text + images to explain people.

That's lots of friction, lots of churn (people leaving, bored or scared)

Then:

4. Amber is android only. Noa is multi platform tech already running web, android and Linux, with some help would work on Windows and apple platforms.

5. Amber is working on softening the UX but its core audience always has been nostr early adopters. For good reasons. Noa target is a pre-nostr human.

6. Finally I started to play with multi platform tech and nostr and then It became something usable. :) so I just kept going.

I mostly want to collect ideas and feedback as onboarding is number one priority for me.

I want also to help people put coins to zap somewhere.

The way to 1M users requires many attempts many failures and to dumb things down a lot.
