I’m re-reading Sinclair Lewis’ ‘Elmer Gantry’ for the third time since December. It is a real compulsion. I identify too much with the protagonist. Too many situations, too many thoughts are too familiar for someone like me who’s been a Professional Good Man… I transfer all my past, all my yearnings for a path not taken, abandoned, into the reading of Elmer Gantry’s existence.
Interesting. I read “Babbitt” a while ago and really enjoyed it. Will check out the summary of Elmer Gantry

I remember I was shocked by how much Babbitt resonated with today’s issues even 100 years later.
Babbit is a masterpiece. Pretty similar in scope and psychological investigation of the American type. Interestingly, these types are still existing in the US.
