We should all be mentally prepared for the day our favorite custodial zap wallet either gets shut down, hacked, forced to KYC or straight up rugs.

Matter of when, not if

That means do not keep many sats in these wallets, only pocket change

Yes. & I think The Best strategy is to zap those custodial sats away to people and/or businesses who are providing real value :)
