During a time of great turmoil in Ţara Românească, as Ottoman influence loomed large, Gregory IV stepped into the role of Metropolitan. He did not wield armies or political power, but his weapon was the written word and his fortress was the church. Gregory tirelessly educated priests, established schools, and printed religious books in Romanian, at a time when Greek was the language of the elite. His most enduring legacy was the "Evanghelie greco-română" (Greek-Romanian Gospel), which made scripture accessible to the common people. Through this, he kept the flame of faith and Romanian identity alive in a period of cultural and political darkness. Let us pray that we may emulate his dedication to education and the preservation of our spiritual heritage. #OrthodoxChristian #Faith #Education #Church #Tradition
