It looks like most jam session events rely on a core group of musicians to get the jam started and to keep it going.

Somewhat inconvenient for me, since the idea was to create a meeting place to form that group in the first place.

The right circumstances for what I want to do never seem to exist. It's frustrating. It's like reading books on how to start a business, only to realise that it's written by and for people whose circumstances were already pretty ideal for that.

You almost get the impression sometimes that people who get what they want in life are completely unaware of how much random chance contributed to their success.

You don't see many people giving advice on creating the right circumstances, because that's rather difficult to do.

The self-made man is a bit like Bigfoot. There are plenty of stories about Bigfoot out there, but no one you personally know has ever encountered him.

Most of the people I've met in my life don't appear to be in full control of their destinies at all. Not even the successful ones. They just sort of ran into a situation by accident and reacted to it.

I think my job coach wants me to continue down the path of software development because it's still my best bet. It's not really what I want, but if having a job is the top priority, it's the quickest way of doing it.

Once your life has been set in motion, overcoming the inertia is difficult. Stuff tends to continue in the same direction unless you put up a fight to change it.

I related it this way to my children. When you enter adulthood you are perched on the sharp peak of a snowcapped mountain. With every year, you descend the mountain, a small amount and the perimeter to any, or an opposite point on the mountain lengthens. This change is difficult to perceive, particularly if you continue on the same path for a number of years. If after some passage of time you desire a path on the opposite side, the traverse to get there will be effortful at least, impossible at worst. Choose the distant destination wisely.
