#grownostr

When someone new shows up, they may find themselves overwhelmed or very put-off by some of the stuff in the Global feed. With good reason.

A poor onboarding experience is probably why Bluesky users think nostr is full of bigoted extremists (who do exist, but are relatively few, and easily muted).

This is why it’s that much more important for us to dive into Global on a regular basis and help guide new users into following good people, setting up relay configs, etc.

Use wss://welcome.nostr.wine to make it easier to find newcomers. (Disable other global relays to filter the feed to newbies).

We can share the amazing #introductions experience many of us had with the next “generation” of users. We need to.

Was saying to someone yesterday, pretty sure certain demographics we like to avoid use telegram, yet so do we and many others. Yet nobody is bashing on us about that

Right on — nostr is a protocol, not a platform; like the internet. There’s all sorts of content on the internet. But you can choose to use a browser and visit servers that exclude stuff you don’t want to see.

It’s a complete shift in mindset to take control of your own content diet. That’s the mantra of the day for me

✨ accountability ✨

Yes and on telegram we only join the channels and groups we want to

Exactly 🙌

I wonder if onboarding is something clients can help solve as well. Definitely a place that clients can differentiate. Putting the responsibility on the end user is something that doesn’t historically work well…

I’ve wondered about that, too.

I know some clients recommend popular accounts to follow, and some default relay lists are more spam-resistant than others.

Just those two areas probably provide some opportunity for improvement

There is a HUGE opportunity to give people new to NOSTR a better onboarding experience. Whoever implements incremental improvements will greatly benefit the entire community. Anything that helps a new user stick around long enough to discover the more amazing aspects of NOSTR is by definition a positive development for the NOSTR community. Everyone spending time and energy developing a relay, a client, or an app should spend some time thinking about the onboarding issue with the eyes of a complete novice. #onboarding #introductions #welcome
