TIL that in the 1950's the conservative (read: confessional) presbyterians in the Southern U.S. States referred to the modernists (read: non-confessional) in their denomination as PINOs (Presbyterian in Name Only).

...and that when the denomination went liberal, a common sentiment was "we didn't leave the denomination; the denomination left us."
