When you connect via HTTPS you're interacting on your local network directly with your device. When you use Tor your traffic is being sent out to the internet, bounced over Tor nodes then being sent back to your home connection. It's mainly the distance the information has to travel, though Tor can also have issues with ddos but the point stands even with a fully functional Tor.
