WhatsApp is a "free", ad-free app that is somehow massively profitable. That's all you need to know.

I stay away from WhatsApp as much as possible. „Forced“ my friends and family into Signal. But if you‘re working in Zambia or Kenya you have to use WhatsApp there is no way around. Mobile data is expensive, Meta sponsors data for WhatsApp. That’s why it’s so popular.
