A handful of people remember counterparty. Less remember Omni. I figure it will be the same with ordinals / inscriptions in time.

We weren’t scamming anyone with it, just fucking around and having fun. We all assumed it would eventually come back up and went about our lives in the meantime.

Agreed. It’s not clear to me whether or not stuffing data like this in the chain was foreseen before segwit was deployed, but hopefully it helps devs see what can happen with any space made available.
