Part 8, the final part of my #AmericanRevolution #vexillology series: Betsy Ross

Although there is much debate about the origin story of the first US flag, it is believed that the original flag was made in June 1776 by seamstress Betsy Ross, when a small committee, including George Washington, Robert Morris, and relative George Ross, visited Betsy to discuss the need for a new U.S. flag. Betsy accepted the job to manufacture the flag, altering the committee's design by replacing the six-pointed stars with five-pointed stars. The flag was made “official” on June 14 (now recognized as Flag Day), 1777 with the passage of the Flag Act. Since that time, more stars have been added as states have been added to the union and the arrangement of stars has changed to fit more stars.
