finally got back around to messing with nostr & experimenting with various lightning network stuff recently. been enjoying getting back to my roots, i've noticed that i feel much more at home amongst the people who tend to inhabit these sorts of platforms, ideologically speaking anyway.
was able to get my NIP-05 verification done in no time at all. in fact, i think my next little project to work on in my spare time is going to be the creation of a one-click, easy to use service that'll let people instantaneously add their own custom domain names (or choose a subdomain name on one of my many URLs that I'll repurpose for this) for their NIP-05 verification.
it'll also serve a dual-use as a webpage (e.g. joeschmo.diesel.baby) that would have an integrated bitcoin lightning network wallet on it, capable of receiving/sending sats on LN with 1 click, and would display some of their recent activity tied to their nostr public key, fed off of a rotating group of relays.
still thinking up some other stuff for this but i think the biggest hurdle is the fact that:
a) we're still quite early and the actual potential of nostr lies in the ability for us to get people to actually USE it
and
b) unfortunately, it's still too much of a hurdle for most people. while you and I (if you're reading this, anyway) have long ago understood the importance of taking control of our privacy, we know what public/private key cryptography is (well, most of us here I would say have a basic understanding of it) and all that jazz -- we still represent the top 0.1% or so of people even using the web. likely a much smaller number, actually. i'm being conservative.
what i'm saying is, we need to make apps, tools, websites that are simple to use with an easy UI that doesn't feel like it's an arduous or complex process, it should be as simple as any other social media site people use -- while highlighting the difference.
onboard, then educate.
