Apps built on open protocols don't have proprietary tech to leverage against competitors.

This is especially true for Nostr, as it is very easy to move between Nostr-based apps.

This means other factors such as user experience, marketing, business etc. become more crucial than pur technical improvements.

A catch is that most open-protocol apps are led by individuals who focus solely on the technology at the expense of these other factors.
