Did you use own recursive resolver? Normally, DNS should not break due to VPN usage...
Do you have any issues with UDP traffic when using Tor?
No? Torrents works fine over Tor
Apparently torrents can operate over TCP. Maybe that's what you are doing.
It uses UDP for the trackers and then transferes the data over TOR
I don't know what that means. So none of the UDP goes over Tor?
Torrenting uses UDP for trackers and can also use TCP for data transfer. The data transfer can work over Tor
I see. One time I tried to use Discord over Tor and the voice chat did not work at all. I had no idea why until like a year later when I learned about the difference between TCP and UDP and how UDP doesn't work over Tor. I've tried Tor before VPN and I can confirm that it works. (Though it's a huge pain in the ass to set up.) It doesn't make sense to do in many contexts, but for my plans it does. Actually Tor before an SSH tunnel is probably better than a VPN for me. Very low overhead.
