The "transitory" inflation claim never made any sense on its face. It necessarily implies an eventual reversal via deflation (not just disinflation). I never heard anyone trying to make the case that they genuinely expected that to happen.
I think she (Yellen) meant to say the rate of inflation is transitory or possibly the rate of change of the rate of inflation is transitory.
But at the end of the day she did a good job playing the “village idiot”.
That will be her legacy.

I think you're being generous. I mean, I think she did actually know better; but, that she was deliberately attempting to deceive the public (with the aid of an uncritical media).
If she really wanted to inform the public accurately in plain language she could have said something like "the much higher prices we are seeing aren't going away; but the good news is that eventually, they will getting even higher slower." The administration would have dumped her on the spot.
