on memorial day i ponder the question:

"Is the solution to ending a war or bringing down a despicable ruler counter violence via a war, or is it some other solution?" or said differently, "is violence through war ever morally justified?"

if YES, then we should commemorate the individuals who fought in moral wars.

if NO then we should mourn the fact that they were tricked into fighting

Idk… I’m reading the Maccabees in the Apocryphal Bible so Im leaning towards yes but because we live in a society corrupted by currency I take today as one of mourning.

I mourn the death of veterans but also those who died fighting for a noble cause ignorant of the wicked/counterproductive intention. Though, war has helped oppressed people overcome… in modern ages it’s more of a tool for corruption.
