Yeah it’s wild to see it all together like this but throughout his career, he went through several artistic phases, from Cubism to Surrealism and many more. Towards the end of his life, he continued to experiment with new techniques and styles as a natural part of his artistic evolution. Also in his later years he experienced a series of personal losses, including the death of friends and some loved ones. I would say those life events influenced his emotional state and, in turn, his artistic output.

But drugs might also have something to do with this as well.

Picasso and his friends would often be found lounging around on the floor of his smoke filled studio, apparently passing around his favorite bamboo pipe. He said of the smell of the thick, opium smoke that it was ‘the most intelligent smell in the world.’

However, in 1908 Picasso found his close friend, Karl-Heinz Wiegels, hanging from the ceiling, having committed suicide as the result of a psychotic break after an overdose of hashish and opium. Picasso vowed never to take the drug again after that experience. But, I dono if he really never did it again. 🤷‍♀️
