Streaming music is so cooked it's insane. Your phone has like a terabyte of storage and a 2tb ssd costs like 100 bucks

Get soulseek, download the .flac of every album you've ever seen in your life, use VLD tramscode to 320 aac when you want it on your phone + return to hoarding

Is this you?

If so, why no nostr links in your X profile?

If not, it sucks that you didn't give credit, but did you at least reply to this person to say nostr needs posts like this and you're copying it because they're not on nostr?

When I cross-posted an infographic about media bias from X the other day (which got zero likes while you went trending for bitching about the word "car" as your example of media bias), I replied to the X user and credited them nostr:note1nvqcke8gmk4p6y47hhke2k7z0gtrjzm3gvxjfajgev3wremqg9ysusac8p

Physical CDs whenever possible, Bandcamp after that. Streaming, for me, is merely a discovery tool. I want to own the things I pay for.

Agreed own what you pay for not leave on centralized platforms that can rug you.

Agreed. FLAC or ALAC. It's not terribly difficult to setup a NAS and stream, too. Occasional streaming for discovery.

My next goal is to buy a NAS for streaming music, ebooks and manga, as well as backing up my GOG games.

N100 Mini PCs are great a start. Plenty can be found for less than $100. The N100 ITX boards aren’t super expensive either, and Proxmox can really do anything.

Never heard of these. How tough are they to set up and run/maintain? May be less than $100 but time is money as well. Might be an option if they don't take too much time to get going, but I'm curious if there's a catch (as other methods have had).

Oh, I agree. Synology would be the gold standard for doing things on easy mode, and if you’re really pressed for time go that route. Since they’re PCs, and Proxmox is a hypervisor (not the only one: TrueNAS, OMV are others), I’d say medium difficulty, but almost no maintenance. They tend to be devices you can set and forget once setup.

This is the way.
