I appreciate Augustine of Hippo a lot more than I used to. There are other Christians who wrote as much as him, but no one else wrote quite like he did. His categories were so efficient they became the default in Christian thought. His topical knowledge was so broad that there’s almost nothing he didn’t touch.
People have accused Paul the Apostle of dominating Christian thought, but in reality, it would be more accurate to say that orthodox Christianity is Paul as understood by Augustine of Hippo.
