The real value of Bitcoin is that

You need my 24 words to access my Bitcoin, and you cannot stop my transactions. That's the value of Bitcoin.

Are these mere features of Bitcoin as opposed to any true value?

I value what I said more than anything else. Why do you think people put their money in Bitcoin? It's because of what I said in that statement. That's the true value of it.

I would argue they are nothing but desirable features. Not really true value.

It’s true you may consider features to be of value

Here we go. Bitcoin has no value. I should have never even commented on your comment. Hahahahahaa

Don’t recall saying or suggesting that.

I am just curious as to what is Bitcoins true value?

I say its up to the individual to determine its value for themselves

This maybe true, however the question still stands.

Each individual can surely deem what they wish that derives value.

Is this simply bitcoins true value?

I agree, these bitcoins "features" make it extremely valuable. I feel confident my wealth can't be forced from me, not stolen easily, I can move anywhere in the world and still have access.l to my bitcoin relatively easily. Transactions can't be censored. In a world where we can't move money easily in traditional banking system, or in a world of debanking, this is extremely valuable.

These “features” are available in various degrees in other “assets” , so taken a step back they are not entirely unique and therefore don’t necessarily provide value.

It’s true , some may attribute a value to a feature and appreciate it. However, does this make these the true value?

It’s not really up to me to define what is meant by true value, as which is why the question that I raised, is quite simply what is the true value of Bitcoin, I’m quite literally asking what is the true value.

The answers I receive seem to be nothing more than features and benefits , which even on the most superficial questioning , most it seems are unable to dig any deeper.

Maybe this is the case, that there is no real true value to Bitcoin and it is just nothing more than a protocol and software system with a list of benefits and features. Hence my question

To add a little further, the times I’ve been in startups and we’ve approached investors and VC’s for funding , they really couldn’t care less about the features and benefits of the systems we had, they are almost overwhelmingly

Hyper focused on what the true value of the business as a whole.

So without any real core spokesperson for Bitcoin, how does one actually derive what the true value of Bitcoin is

Yes, assets such as gold can have some of these features too. But its hard to move around large amounts of value in gold across borders. And difficult to protect in self custody.

What other assets have some of the same features as bitcoin?

I suppose Bitcoin doesn't have value in terms of creating something physical. Gold silver can be used in producing physical products directly. So then bitcoin wont have value in this context. But it would be short sighted to think something only has value if it produces physical products.

What mstr is doing in producing yield would be creating value for bitcoin. But once again not direct.

Kind of feels like going round in circles in your head, asking whether bitcoin has value in the way you asking. Might be a pointless question. The affect bitcoin is having and will have is pretty clear.

I suppose Bitcoin is just code. So it might be better to compare Bitcoin to any piece of software. eg. Microsoft windows which runs because of code. What value does Microsoft operating system have? Based on how you asking the question, Microsoft operating system would also have no value, but its affect is quite opposite. How people interact with it is what creates the value. and what people can do because of it, is what creates the value. Bitcoin is the same.

Litecoin , Dogecoin have these exact same features too

Yes, true. But from picking the strongest network, security, hash, nodes, size of asset etc. Bitcoin is way in the lead.

Ive always liked Monero because of its privacy, but recent attack, exposes vulnerabilities of smaller crypto. If Monero was 10 or 100 times bigger, would the attack have had any affect?

Regardless, Monero survived, and has infact recovered quite well, which means a similar attack on Bitcoin (which I think is in many order magnitutdes more difficult so very unlikely). But if a similar attack did succeed on bitcoin, it would be for a brief time and very short lived. Monero survived, so Bitcoin would likely spring back even stronger.

So first reviewing your answer, going directly comparing to gold, but omitting Bitcoins closest competitors such Litecoin and even the joke that is Dogecoin, which fundamentally are initially hard forks of original Bitcoin code, with a few additional property tweaks. However, they still have the exact same benefits and features as Bitcoin.

Reviewing your answer let’s say from a VC perspective, you may be a little closer to an answer. Alluding too that it’s the infrastructure that has developed around Bitcoin is where its true value lies .

That being said a similar infrastructure exists within these other assets.

Yeah true, the value of bitcoin is all about in the infastructure.

Bitcoin is…

• saving without permission

• money that protects your time + energy

• money you can trust not to change

• a peaceful opt-out

• certainty in an uncertain system

That’s an oversimplification.

Everyone decides what money is valuable to them.

For many Bitcoiners, fiat simply has less value.

Yeah I’d buy those values for a dollar
