I'm conflicted about the EU vote.

I can't feel happy about people whose politics I disapprove of winning so clearly, but my own timid, bleeding-heart voting habits weren't making Europe a better place.

Tell us ladies, when it is over. We don't want to see this part.

Sould've BREXIT'd like us Brits 😂

We just self destruct now!

Well, if we stop shoving the migrants at Britain, that'll lessen the flow to you, as well.

Can you or someone fill me in. I'm an American and I feel dumb AF for not knowing a single thing about EU politics.

The EU vote (in Germany, haven't looked elsewhere) showed a dramatic nativist push, on the left and the right.

we lost the real political mid years ago

Most of Europe has opted for a more national orientation with fewer open external borders. The only exceptions to this trend are the Nordic countries, where the left-wing, socialist parties have won.

This is of course said very simplistically

Socialists aren't necessarily fans of open-borders, as it quickly bankrupts any welfare state.

At least they shouldn't be. But in Germany, the Social-Democrats have been very much in favor of heavy migration, along with the Christian-Democrats under Merkel.

Yes, but look at how Wagenknecht wiped the Left Party right off the political map.

That's true, and maybe her critical position on migration out of economical incentives has contributed to her success...

Her success seems to be mostly due to her position on how to achieve peace in Ukraine

She is simply a serious, intelligent person. She deserved this win. As did Alice.

We are being governed by childish, midwitted clowns and everyone knows it.

I tried wahlometer before voting. I was given binary choices with no nuance. My choices were pro humanity, pro peace. Many I was on the fence on.

I came out as an AfD voter... Go figure.

That's not how I voted.

I suppose I belong to the majority of voters who didn't vote for the AfD, but feel some vague satisfaction that someone else did.

I have that terrible ability to empathise with those who struggle with finding answers to apparent problems. My family thinks I therefore am AfD. Nuance.

Even the pirates are hurtling towards WW3 with their policies.

I am a centrist but sticking our heads in the sand due to not wanting to offend either the left or the right has not worked.

I'm what passes for a Libertarian, in Europe, I suppose.

I didn't want mass immigration, but reversing it is going to be really ugly.

The problem with democracy is that it explicitly includes the possibility that people can vote to remove democracy.

That's certainly the case with the increasing numbers of Islamist immigrants pushing to impose Sharia law, although it is also increasingly the case with far left and far right elements as well. People have had it easy for so long they've forgotten what freedom actually is.

Government is always at the consent of the governed, so if the governed don't want democracy, then they can get rid of it.

It is, what it is.

That's why not every culture is compatible with Western culture.
