Max Brooks' World War Z is one of those great books I've read several times. It has a unique and immersive storytelling style I've not read before. My fav being the web of perspectives and experiences of the characters that made the fictional world incredibly real.

Might even be a good basis for foretelling how shit people can be and how good they can be when they're desperate to survive.
