one of the homes i toured in New Hampshire that was built in 2010 or so had symmetrical 2 gig ( up and down ) Fiber available at that address ( for a reasonable $85 a month )

according to my research unless your laptop is right next to the router you won't get more than about 500 mbit but for those of you running some kind of servers plugged in with physical ethernet cable that kind of connection is pretty impressive to have at home ...

they also seem to offer business class internet, though i didn't check how much it was because it's not something i need ...

overall though the most common connection available in homes these days is 1200/35 mbit comcast cable ... and while 1200 is quite generous the 35 part leaves a lot to be desired ...

35 is just barely enough to be a cam whore but honestly in the current year we deserve better.

although 99.9% don't need symmetrical speeds i would like something like 1000/100 at least, yet most homes don't have that.

some homes do have fiber but it's usually Fios at like 900/800 which of course i would be very happy with ( in fact i do have that available where i currently live, but i just use 300/35 cable because Fios was not available when i moved in here and i plan to move so it's not worth my time switching service at this location ).

2000/2000 is the best i have seen available at an actual location though. i have seen 10,000/10,000 advertised here and there but never seen better than 2000/2000 when you actually type in the address into the provider's website and check availability.
